The Satellite Airfield at Docking

A map showing the position of RAF Docking airfield

The satellite airfield at Sunderland Farm, near Docking, was situated about a mile from the village in a north-east direction. The picture shows the position of the grass airfield south of Sunderland House, a farmhouse that was bombed and destroyed in May 1941 and rebuilt at the end of the war. Most of the RAF Docking's domestic accommodation and communal facilities were situated remote from the airfield along the Docking to Brancaster road shown to the west of the airfield. Most of The technical facilities were situated close to Sunderland House. A railway line, a branch line between Heacham and Wells, and a minor road to Burnham Market passed along the southern perimeter of the airfield.
